The Karratha Inclusive Holiday Program was initially started up by inclusion WA and has been running successfully for almost 5 years. This is purpose built community owned and driven program designed to fill an identified gap in the local community. EPIC took over the facilitation of the program in early 2015 and have been collaborating with local clubs, groups and volunteers to help raise the awareness of inclusion and participation for people with a disability. The aim of the program is to educate all community members, to include those from all walks of life not just during the holiday periods but in everyday ventures.
The Karratha Inclusive Holiday program is delivered during each school holiday period, four times per year and engages with local clubs and groups to offer a series of free ‘come and try’ two hour sessions. People from all backgrounds and ability levels can benefit from inclusive opportunities and potentially use the ‘holiday sessions’ as a pathway into various clubs or groups that they may not have approached otherwise.
Each club or group are required to run a two hour session which is a basic clinic where participants can get involved and check out what the club is all about. The program is currently funded by Pilbara Ports Authority for venue hire only, and donations are provided by Woolworths enabling us to provide a healthy snack and refreshments at each session.
